BioFire Diagnostics is an industry leader in biomedical research, development, and production of clinical molecular diagnostic solutions. Their 288,000 square foot headquarters rests at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City, and due to the company’s abundant growth, they opened a new office and manufacturing facility.
Hunt Electric’s Renewable Energy Division designed and installed a solar photovoltaic system to supply electricity to the building. The scope included the installation of twelve covered parking lot carports with 3,168 solar photovoltaic panels on top. This covers 412 vehicle parking stalls and will provide electrical production equivalent to powering 128 residential houses for one year.
BioFire Diagnostics, in pursuit of being a leader, not only enhanced biomedical industry advancements but doing their part to be industry leaders in environmental stewardship, selected to do on-site clean energy production in conjunction with the new construction of their advanced facility.
Challenge: Expansive soils, underground storm water containment systems
Solution: Oversized piers, preinstalled foundations at time of water containment installation
System: 12 Carports covering 412 parking stalls (3,168 Solar PV Panels/Modules)
